The UAB Medicine Monoclonal Antibody COVID Clinic (MAC) and the COVID Respiratory Clinic now offer same-day and next-day appointments. The MAC provides monoclonal intravenous (IV) infusions and injections for non-hospitalized patients who test positive for COVID-19, have mild to moderate symptoms, and are at high risk of getting worse. The COVID Respiratory Clinic treats patients who are COVID positive with symptoms that require more than primary care.
The FDA has issued authorization for infusion and injection of monoclonal antibodies that can attach to parts of the virus. These antibodies help the immune system recognize and respond more effectively to the virus. Monoclonal antibody therapy can prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death in high-risk patients who have contracted or been exposed to COVID-19.
A provider at the MAC will answer questions and prescribe medications for home use if needed. At the COVID Respiratory Clinic, a provider will evaluate the patient and prescribed any needed medications. Physician referral is required for the clinics.
Monoclonal Antibody COVID Clinic and COVID Respiratory Clinic are open Monday-Thursday, 12:30 pm – 5 pm and Friday, 8 am – 5 pm (last appointment 3 pm).
A physician referral is required for both the Monoclonal Antibody COVID Clinic and the COVID Respiratory Clinic.
