The 2024 Transplant Games of America brought together thousands of participants and spectators July 5-10 in Birmingham, Ala., to create a truly unforgettable experience. UAB Medicine was honored to serve as the presenting medical partner for the Games, which began in 1990 to support the gift of life that organ donation represents and celebrate the individuals and families touched by transplantation.
The UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine team provided exceptional medical coverage for the athletes, and leaders from the UAB Comprehensive Transplant Institute (CTI) participated in the opening ceremony and hosted an educational film series that included the premiere of the video, “Why Did I Become a Living Donor?”.
Numerous UAB Medicine clinical services staff and individual employees volunteered at the various competitions and the village expo booth to engage with visitors throughout the five-day event. Other UAB Medicine departments and partners represented at the Games included Legacy of Hope, the UAB Department of Family & Community Medicine, the UAB Department of Dermatology, the UAB O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, the UAB Department of Pathology, and the UAB Specialty Pharmacy.

UAB Medicine congratulates the medalists and participants, and we are so grateful to all of the spectators and volunteers for helping make the 2024 Games a huge success!
