On May 1, 2021, CMS began requiring hospitals, including psychiatric hospitals, to notify physicians, through electronic means, when a patient is admitted, discharged, or transferred (ADT) to/from a healthcare facility, provider, or practitioner.
What are Admission, Discharge & Transfer Event Notifications?
These are notifications when a patient is admitted, discharged, or transferred. This includes inpatient, emergency department, observation admission/registration, discharge, or transfer from one facility/provider to another.
What are the benefits of ADT notifications?
Notifications are meant to enable seamless care coordination, improve treatment and quality of care across various providers and practitioners.
How does it work?
Once a patient is admitted, discharged, or transferred, that patient’s designated PCP, primary care practice group or entity, or other practitioner/practice group/entity identified by the patient as primarily responsible for his or her care, can receive real-time notification of that event through a secure, HIPAA-compliant, electronic system.
How do I participate/sign-up?
Currently, per CMS guidelines, providers are automatically sent notifications. However, that is not a perfect system as many providers do not have current or appropriate contact information as part of the e-notification system. As a provider, you are able to opt-in or opt-out of e-notifications. In order to opt-in to notifications regarding your patients’ ADT events at UAB Hospital, UAB Spain Rehabilitation Hospital, or UAB Center for Psychiatric Medicine, please click here.
Can I opt-out of notifications?
Providers can opt-out of receiving ADT notifications from Bamboo Health by either clicking on the unsubscribe link included in the message itself or by reaching out to support@patientping.com. Please note that choosing to opt-out will eliminate receipt of all ADT notifications from Bamboo Health, not just those on a particular patient.
