Birmingham, AL 35233

The UAB Women and Infants Center is a world-class health care facility dedicated solely to the care of women and infants. From inpatient surgical care to routine outpatient office visits, the UAB Women and Infants Center provides complete care for mother and baby under one roof. The state-of-the-art facility offers a comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere and expert medical staff. UAB is the only hospital in the state where high-risk maternal and fetal physicians are available in-house 24 hours a day, every day of the year. We also provide the area’s only 24/7 Maternity Evaluation Unit for assessment of any pregnancy questions that might arise at gestational age of 16 weeks or greater.

The 400,000-square-foot hospital is one of the first in the Southeast to feature all private neonatal intensive care nursery and continuing care nursery rooms. It also offers private labor, antepartum, postpartum, and gynecology patient rooms. The private room design enhances maternal, family, and infant bonding. Specialized isolation rooms and suites designed for twins and triplets further enhance the family atmosphere. We even provide lounges, kitchenettes, dens, play areas, and sleeping quarters for a support person.

Everything in the Women and Infants Center is designed with patient comfort and family-centered care in mind. This welcoming environment is home to UAB's highly-trained and compassionate physicians, nurses and other health professionals, as well as advanced services and sophisticated medical technology dedicated to the care of healthy and high-risk pregnant women, healthy and high-risk newborns, and women receiving care for a variety of gynecological problems, including gynecological cancers.

In conjunction with The Children's Hospital of Alabama, UAB is classified as a Level IV RNICU, the highest level possible and the only Level IV in the state. With 56 private rooms able to accommodate 63 babies, including special rooms for twins and triplets, the RNICU was planned around the needs of each newborn and their families, and it is well-equipped to handle any situation that may arise. The Center also houses UAB’s Continuing Care Nursery (CCN), a step-down unit where families will find private rooms for the extended care necessary once a baby is well enough to leave the RNICU.
