The Workplace, located at UAB Hospital-Highlands in Birmingham, provides care for non-emergency on-the-job injuries as well as occupational therapy and physical rehabilitation services. Since 1990, The Workplace has been a valued occupational medicine resource for Alabama employers, and today we are better equipped than ever to reduce employer liability and increase employee productivity.
When an injury at work occurs, companies seek the medical care and advice of our highly trained physicians, who are board certified in occupational medicine and physiatry. The Workplace team is dedicated to providing you with the level of service you expect for your injured employee.
Our goal is to facilitate your employee’s return to work as quickly as possible, while avoiding complications. For injuries that require work restrictions, our philosophy is to return the patient to work in a capacity appropriate to the injury. If restricted duty is necessary, this is clearly communicated to the employer in writing. Patients who need specialty care for an injury may receive one or more services at our location. Having these services at one location reduces time away from work, provides more efficient care, and reduces stress for both the employee and employer.

Although we specialize in work-related injury, we do accept many healthcare plans.
