The Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital opened in summer 2017 to accommodate growing demand for outpatient health care services at UAB Medicine. It is located at 500 22nd Street South, just one block from The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital.

As an extension of The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital, the Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital is dedicated to providing primary care/internal medicine and other advanced health care services that are both compassionate and convenient for our patients and their families. The Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital houses the Internal Medicine I, II, and III clinics, along with X-ray services and a full-service laboratory*.

Patient Registration Kiosks

The patient registration kiosks at Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital allow for shorter wait times and a much smoother check-in process. These electronic touch-screens reduce redundant paperwork and provide access to real-time information concerning co-pays, deductibles, and other insurance data. *The primary care and radiology (X-ray) clinics at Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital are provider-based (or hospital-based), which is a term that Medicare uses to describe outpatient clinics that actually are part of a hospital. Patients who visit the primary care and/or radiology clinics at Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital may receive two bills: one for the services provided by the physician, and one for the services provided by the facility. In addition, Medicaid patients may be required to pay two co-payments for receiving care at these provider-based clinics: one for the physician visit and one for the hospital visit. Depending on their insurance coverage, patients may pay more overall for outpatient services and procedures at provider-based clinics.
