Primary Care at the Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital

The Primary Care at the Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital opened in summer 2017 to accommodate growing demand for outpatient health care services at UAB Medicine. It is located at 500 22nd Street South, just one block from The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital.

As an extension of The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital, the Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital is dedicated to providing primary care and other advanced health care services that are both compassionate and convenient for our patients and their families. The Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital houses the Primary Care I, II, and III clinics, along with X-ray services and a full-service laboratory*.

*The primary care and radiology (X-ray) clinics at Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital are provider-based (or hospital-based), which is a term that Medicare uses to describe outpatient clinics that actually are part of a hospital. Patients who visit the primary care and/or radiology clinics at Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital may receive two bills: one for the services provided by the physician, and one for the services provided by the facility. In addition, Medicaid patients may be required to pay two co-payments for receiving care at these provider-based clinics: one for the physician visit and one for the hospital visit. Convenient parking is located in the deck at 2100 6th Avenue South, which is adjacent to the Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital. The deck is connected by a weatherproof sky bridge to the second floor of both the Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital and The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital. The fee for parking increases according to time spent in the deck. Valet is available for $7.00 in front of in front of The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital and in front of the Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital. Patients with handicapped tags/license plates may self-park in the handicapped spaces at Whitaker for $5.00.
