Gardendale Freestanding Emergency Department
The UAB Medicine Freestanding Emergency Department on Rocket Way in Gardendale is a state-of-the-art facility, for both adult and pediatric patients, and is equipped to handle most medical emergencies, including heart attack, stroke, trauma, and much more. Adjacent to the Freestanding Emergency Department is a medical complex that features primary and specialty care services and a UAB Callahan Eye Clinic.
The Freestanding Emergency Department includes 13 exam and treatment rooms, one trauma room, two procedure rooms, and a secure holding area. It is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians, advanced practice providers (such as nurse practitioners, or NPs), registered nurses, and other medical professionals trained in providing emergency care. It also houses a full-service pharmacy, on-site laboratory and complete diagnostic imaging services.
The care provided at the Freestanding Emergency Department of Gardendale is backed by the knowledge and expertise of UAB, one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers. Our highly trained staff can arrange for patient transfers to a hospital if necessary, and the facility includes a helicopter landing pad for transporting patients with the most urgent medical needs.
