Can I smoke at UAB Hospital, and what assistance do you offer to help me quit?
UAB is a part of the Health District, which is a smoke-free area established by a city of Birmingham ordinance to promote health and wellness among patients, employees, students, and visitors. All sidewalks, streets, and outdoor public areas in the district are designated smoke-free.
For the health of patients, staff, and guests, smoking is strongly discouraged on the UAB Hospital campus. All buildings, facilities, and spaces (including covered walkways and covered parking) that are owned, rented, or leased by UAB are nonsmoking areas.
UAB’s Tobacco Consult Service provides free assistance to patients who want to quit smoking. Call 205-934-0411 or ask a member of your care team to request a consult.
For additional information and resources to help kick the habit, watch this smoking cessation video or call 1-800-QUITNOW. We also encourage you to use the community resources below to help you quit. Remember: Quitting smoking is one of the single best things you can do for your health!
